Fentanyl

The original police response was to a report of a man who was threatened with a gun after he was assaulted while walking his child home from school.

He was wanted on an active warrant when La Crosse police alerted Rochester police that he was in Rochester using a stolen vehicle and possibly armed.

Another Rochester man convicted in the case was given a six-month jail sentence.

He admitted supplying her with fentanyl the day before she died.

He was caught with a baggie of fentanyl when he was being processed into the Olmsted County jail.

His long criminal history includes at least 8 previous felony theft and drug related convictions.

Court documents say evidence gathered through the monitoring of phone conversations in the Olmsted County jail led to the new charges.

The child's father was also charged with 2nd-degree manslaughter.

Court records indicate Johnson previously spent three years in prison for a robbery conviction in 2011 and six years behind bars after being convicted as an armed habitual criminal in Illinois in 2015.

He became a suspect in the case when he called the woman's cell phone after the deadly drug overdose was discovered.
