Weekend Update is officially going to the Emmys. NBC confirms that SNL writers and stars Colin Jost and Michael Che will host the 2018 ceremony later this year, while creator Lorne Michaels is getting back involved as well.
If Will & Grace didn’t kick in the TV revival door, Roseanne certainly blew it off the hinges. There’s still a few major TV revivals to ponder, but NBC brass now say Seinfeld or Friends will never happen.
Most revivals are one-and-done, so leave it to Will & Grace to break down another norm. Following NBC’s pre-premiere renewal for a bonus tenth season, the network is already confirming a third revival run before the first has finished airing.
As if Golden Globes, SAG Awards and a role in Black Panther weren’t enough, Sterling K. Brown’s banner 2018 is adding another honor. The This Is Us star will make his SNL hosting debut in March, flanked by Charles Barkley and Bill Hader.
Now that CBS has reached back through time to bring Murphy Brown to 2018, the age of revivals is truly upon us. Many have long-viewed Friends as the Holy Grail of potential reunion series, but star Lisa Kudrow now dismisses the prospect as “sad.” Is she right?
Matt Lauer’s dismissal from Today was a sign of harassment allegations to come, and the storm has officially hit. A new report details Lauer’s history of exposing himself to women, making sexualized and demeaning comments among the staff, and even installing a bizarre lock system in his office.
The ongoing cycle of sexual harassment exposure has repeatedly put SNL in an awkward position; one the show seems reticent to address. In light of accusations against writer-turned-senator Al Franken, however, thirty-six female cast and crew have now spoken out to defend Franken’s name.
We knew changes were coming to SNL Season 43 after the departures of Vanessa Bayer, Bobby Moynihan and Sasheer Zamata, but these additions are real buzzer-beaters. Ahead of Saturday’s premiere, SNL welcomes Heidi Gardner, Luke Null and Chris Redd to the series, with more than double as many writers.
