The White House responded to Taylor Swift's MTV Video Music Awards Video of the Year award speech Tuesday (August 27).

"The Trump administration absolutely opposes discrimination of any kind and supports the equal treatment of all; however, the House-passed bill in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights," United States Press Secretary Judd Deere said in a statement released earlier today, via CNN.

On Monday night (August 26), after Swift won the Video of the Year award for "You Need To Calm Down," the pop star spoke about LGBTQ+ rights in her acceptance speech.

"At the end of the video, there was a petition and there still is a petition for the Equality Act, which basically says we all deserve equal rights under the law," Swift said.

"And I want to thank everyone who signed that petition because it now has half a million signatures which is five times the amount that it would need to warrant a response from The White House," Swift told the crowd, pointing to an invisible watch on her wrist.

Swift has not yet shared her thoughts on The White House's statement.

After Swift's speech, an influx of new people signed Swift's petition, including Ellen DeGeneres, who shared the petition with her followers and asked them to sign it as well.
