Is there anything more annoying than to get a SPAM phone call? How nice would it be not to have your phone constantly ringing with worthless calls?  You probably answered your cell phone thinking it was something important and it ends up being one of those calls where you owe back taxes and the Sheriff's Office is on the way to pick you up unless you pay now. I'm on the Federal Do Not Call List and it seems I am constantly getting at least one of these calls a day. These calls MIGHT be a thing of the past for some phone owners, with a new app that claims to prevent SOME SPAM calls.

Google's Phone App can now automatically filter out calls that it detects to be spam, sending them directly to voicemail. Your phone won’t ring, and you won’t even get a missed call notification for any calls that Google weeds out. It's kind of a cool feature that you can toggle on and off from the settings area of the Phone app. The Phone app already identifies suspected spam callers by turning your phone’s entire screen red when it rings, which is a clear visual indicator that you shouldn’t pick up.

These features only work for calls that Google can successfully detect. If the app fails to filter out a SPAM call, you can help Google’s system and by extension other people by reporting the nuisances that do manage to get through as spam right inside the Phone app.
