If I were to ask you what do you remember about November of 1997? You might have had a child born, or have a child graduate, maybe you got married. Well, November of 1997 will forever be a great month for a band who has so far just had one true hit, and that band, Marcy Playground, has Minnesota roots.

"Sex and Candy" was a song released in November of 1997 and eventually hit #1 for a then-record 15 weeks on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart (beating Oasis's 10-week run at #1 with "Wonderwall" in 1995). The song was also the band's only major hit, peaking at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

But where is the Minnesota tie-in to the band? John Wozniak is the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter of the band. John, who was born in Minneapolis, got the band name from the Marcy Open grade school in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood, near Dinkytown. It's weird a band who got its name from a school had their big hit song involved the words 'sex' and 'candy.

Don't remember the mid-90's song? No problem, you can hear it below from the band's official Vevo channel!
