St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of coronavirus related deaths in both Minnesota and the Rochester area continues to climb.

89 additional COVID-19 deaths were reported today by the Minnesota Department of Health, surpassing yesterday's death toll of 82 as the third-highest single-day death count of the pandemic. Two of the deaths on today's list involved Olmsted County residents. Officials say both of the deceased individuals were elderly men. One was 85 years old and the other was 91 years old.

There were also two deaths reported today in Winona County and another coronavirus related death in Freeborn County. State health officials also noted two of the deaths, both in Ramsey County, involved individuals in their 20s. The overall statewide death toll is now just under 4200.

The state health department today reported just over 3500 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 infections in Minnesota and 80 of the new cases were found in Olmsted County. The statewide testing total yesterday was above 38,000 and the daily testing positivity rate was around 9.2-percent.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 were nearly steady with 1190 Minnesotans currently hospitalized because of the viral illness. 352 of those patients were reported in intensive care.
