Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man employed by the University of Minnesota as an instructor at the school’s Minneapolis campus was sentenced Thursday in Olmsted County Court for a prostitution-related conviction.

37-year-old Solen Feyissa pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge and was given a stayed 90-day jail sentence and was placed on probation for a year. He was also ordered to pay fines and fees that totaled just over $1,000.

The criminal case against Feyissa was filed earlier this year. The complaint says he responded to a bogus online ad posted by the RPD vice unit and made arrangements to meet at a hotel n March 20th. When he found out the person he was meeting was actually a police officer, Feyissa reportedly said he conducting research and wanted to learn about prostitutes. He told the officer, “I was just curious on how their lives are lived.”

The officer’s report indicated Feyissa was seeking sex from a prostitute, not research.
