Would You Live in This Underground ‘Hobbit House’ in Wisconsin? (Photos)
If you've always wanted to live underground, wanted to be a Hobbit or Laura Ingles Wilder in "On the Banks of Plum Creek", this house in River Falls, Wisconsin -- a short 70 miles from Rochester -- is for you. The description, however, isn't too sexy...
First time offering of the "Bermed-Earth-Sheltered home" designed by the Architect, Mike McGuire. This private home...is multi leveled with 2236 square feet, 3 wood burning fireplaces, 2 newer furnaces. 5 skylights, 2 large bedrooms, 2 baths, built-in's and 2 car garages. (Dale Antiel - Edina Realty)
You had me at underground and three fireplaces.
But seriously, $285,00 is out of my price range, but with property tax under $4,000/year, this sounds like a cool deal for someone. The deck has a lot of tree coverage, apparently, which is great for shade but could also be ground zero for bird poop bombing runs.
Check out the pics in the gallery below and you can check out the actual "Hobbit House" listing here
UPDATE: According to the listing, the house was sold on March 29, 2019 for $190,000
