Unemployment Trending Higher in Rochester This Summer
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Olmsted County still has the lowest jobless rate in the region but it doesn’t appear the local labor market is as tight as it was last summer.
The latest numbers from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development put the unemployment rate for the Rochester area at 2.9-percent in June. That’s up half a percentage point from May, and while much of the increase is due to seasonal factors, the jobless rate for Olmsted County was also up half a percentage point when compared to June of last year.
Across the region, the unemployment rates remained very low in June. The highest rate was found in Winona and Freeborn Counties at 3.5-percent. The largest percentage increase was reported by Winona County, where the jobless rate jumped 8-tenths of a point to 3.2-percent from May to June.
