Thanksgiving is just a week away and then Christmas will be here before you know it. The United Way of Olmsted County has opportunities for you to volunteer your time during the holiday season. You could be a Secret Santa to people with traumatic brain injuries, take underprivileged kids on a shopping trip or be a tour guide for the Mayowood Christmas tours.

This program serves persons with traumatic brain Injuries. They are seeking volunteers to participate in the Secret Santa program which brightens the holiday season for program participants. They pair participants with volunteers in the community. During the designated weeks, volunteers send cards and or inexpensive gifts to their assigned person. Email wesb@abcinc.org or call 507-281-6262 for more information or to volunteer with Ability Building Center.

On Wednesday evening, December 9, capture some of the excitement of the holiday by taking an 8 or 9 year old child shopping. Together you will board a bus and head to Shopko where you will both shop for members of the child’s immediate family. Children and volunteers then return to The Salvation Army where they wrap their gifts together and have a snack before parents return to pick up their kids. Email haley_earley@usc.salvationarmy.org or call 507-288-3663 for more information or to volunteer with Rochester Salvation Army.

Tours will take place through December 13 (except Thanksgiving Day) on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Tour guide duties can include leading tours, trailing tours, and greeting visitors as they arrive. Training will be provided. Email . accounting@olmstedhistory.com or call 507-282-9447 for more information or to volunteer with the History Center Of Olmsted County.
