Volunteer to Help a Kid Shop for Christmas with the Rochester Salvation Army
Thirty people. Thirty volunteers. Thirty individuals that will take with them a feeling of such emotional rejuvenation, they'll fall asleep calmly, peacefully, and worry-free. Maybe for the first time in a long long time.
- THEM: You're talking about helping kids shop for Christmas gifts for their family, right?
- ME: Yep.
Pretty fancy talk for just shopping with kids. But I tell you, from first-hand experience, the Salvation Army Children's Shopping Trip is a special night. You'll be paired with an eight or nine-year-old child, together you'll go to Shopko North, and the child's budget will be a $10 gift card for each person in their family. Then, gifts purchased, everyone heads back to the Salvation Army for the gift wrapping and cocoa. Then their parents pick them up, and you go home.
How is that transformative? It's in the kids. Watching them try so hard to find the perfect gift for mom or dad or a sister or brother. They have so much love for their family, they want it to be perfect. It's in their heart you find your center, your inner-child. A reminder of how magical a time children should be.
