Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council wants to hear from the public before any decisions are made on the future use of the downtown site that had been planned for the proposed Bloom project.

That was the council’s consensus Monday, the first time there was discussion about the riverfront property since Bloom’s decision not to proceed.

The council’s main question to the public will be: should its future use be public, private or a combination?

The council also needs to make a decision on the future of the city’s 2nd St parking ramp that is part of the site. City Administrator Steve Rymer told the council he will develop a formal process to engage the public on the issue.

The Council was also updated on the ongoing process to establish a nonprofit entity to govern and operate the Mayo Civic Center.

City administration is in the process of developing by-laws for the entity which is expected to be operational by the end of the year. The council was told the entity will be required to operate under a rigid budget and maintain a reserve that will be used for future expenses.

A committee is expected to be appointed soon to begin a search for the entity’s executive director.
