Hummingbirds Are Almost Here – Here’s When To Expect Them In Minnesota
We have had a whirlwind of weather thrown our way the past few weeks. Just a few weeks ago, 17 inches of snow dropped on my house. On Monday, a tornado touched down in Southern Minnesota. And on Friday, April 17th, multiple tornadoes caused extensive damage as they hit parts of Rochester, Stewartville, and surrounding areas.

Now that we are finally feeling the warmth of the sun and switching out our boots for sandals...birds are flooding our area. However, one bird hasn't made an appearance yet, but it will soon - the Ruby-throated Hummingbird.
Seeing hummingbirds at my house is one of my favorite things, and I can't wait to see them show up again this summer. If you'd love to have them at your house, below are a few tips to attract them and a hint when they typically show up in Minnesota.
When Do Hummingbirds Normally Show Up In Minnesota
Based on data from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Ruby-throated hummingbird appreciates warm weather. Since Minnesota is a frozen tundra for a good chunk of the year and it takes a bit to warm up, most of the time, this hummingbird species appears the first week of May.
You may want to get your hummingbird feeders out now, though, because sightings have already been spotted in Iowa and Wisconsin. According to hummingbirdcentral.com, cities near Iowa City and Des Moines in Iowa were already seeing the tiny bird appear. Sightings near the Wisconsin Dells were also noted by bird watchers on the site.

What You Need To Do To Attract Hummingbirds In Your Yard
One of the first things you should do is get a few hummingbird feeders. Here are a few that I have at my house that are for sale right now on Amazon.
The biggest thing to know is to keep the hummingbird feeder full. The easiest (and best for the birds) is to create your own sugar mix and fill those often. At the link below, you'll find the simple recipe - it will take less than 5 minutes to make.
