Where Do Minnesota’s Potholes Rank Nationally? (Yep, Thought So)

The number crunchers at Quote Wizard have come to a conclusion that Minnesotan's have known for a very long time when it comes to potholes, ours are the worst in the nation.

Potholes are most common in the spring and fall, when water seeps into cracks in the roadway -- an repeatedly freezing and thawing, expanding and contracting -- causing asphalt to crumble away.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, here's the perfect recipe for potholes:

Snow, ice and rain provide ample moisture and severe cold causes pavement cracking that allows water to seep in, expand and displace paving material. Add sunlight, which creates varying temperatures that keep the damaging freeze/thaw cycle in motion. And finally, warmer spring weather accelerates the freeze/thaw cycle, causing pavement to deteriorate even more quickly.
