The other day I played a Christmas song on Y105 called "Mele Kalikimaka" by Bing Crosby. It's a catch song that means "Merry Christmas" in Hawaiian. But it got me to thinking, why don't they just say Merry Christmas? I found out that it's not that Hawaii has a completely different word for Christmas, it's just that Kalikimaka is the closest Hawaiian word for it. Confused? Watch the video and the guy with the British accent will explain it all.
