Why Is Minnesota Not on ‘Best Summer Travel Destinations’ List?
We're known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, for crying out loud, yet Minnesota was still snubbed when it comes to a new list devised to help you plan your summer vacations.
According to the gang over at WalletHub and their 'Best Summer Travel Destinations' List, Minnesota's only entry on the list was Minneapolis/St. Paul, which ranked #38 out of the top places head for a little rest and relaxation this summer.
Now, while coming in at #38 out of 100 total places isn't exactly a snub, the problem with this list-- at least as it pertains to Minnesota, that is-- is that it looked at the top 100 Most Populated Areas and then ranked them on where you get the most bang for your vacation buck.
I can't fault them for that, certainly, because there are a lot of great activities in those types of spots. Like, Washington D.C., which came in first. It's tough to top all the attractions in the nation's capital.
It also explains why Minnesota didn't crack the top 20, because when they compiled this list, WalletHub looked at categories that included the "cost of the cheapest flight, to the number of attractions, to weather," the site said. As you might expect, Minnesota's lone entry on the list scored fairly high on local cost, but not so great when it comes to categories like the weather.
But here's the thing: for me, one of the greatest parts of a Minnesota summer-- which we all know flies by way too fast-- is getting out and enjoying the great outdoors, whether it's on a lake, at a state park, or bike trail along the North Shore. And those activities are all designed to get AWAY from people and highly-populated areas, right?
So enjoy this summer, and don't get too bent out of shape at our coming in at #26. Because as we all know, especially here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, there are MANY other great summer vacations that didn't make this list!
