Halloween is just a few weeks away.   I love seeing all the neighborhood kids trick-or-treating in their creative costumes.  It was always fun to help my kids come up with the right costume.  But what’s even more important, is making sure you avoid the wrong ones.

As parents, we’re all concerned about Halloween safety.  That’s why I think this is a horrible costume idea.   There have been costumes showing up in stores and online promoting an all black bodysuit costume for kids.

Think about that for a moment.  What could be more dangerous than having a small kid, dressed in all black on a dark Halloween night?  They are virtually invisible to passing cars, not to mention the fact that the costume is difficult for the child to see through.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has shared some Halloween safety tips that all kids should follow:

*Stick to familiar areas that are well lit

*Trick or treat in groups

*Choose face paint when possible instead of masks, which can obstruct vision

*Decorate costumes with reflective tape and have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights.

And by all means, avoid something as dangerous as the all-black bodysuit.  Halloween is a night where a kid should not want to blend in with the dark of the night.
