Individuals Moving to Minnesota Have A Little Less Stress Starting August 1st, 2023

Way back in 2000, I had some huge life moments.  I got married and moved to Minnesota.  Since I had a new name and new address, I went down to the DMV to get a new license.  What I was NOT expecting to do that day was take a written driving test.  I'm pretty sure I even told the person at the counter, "Are you serious".

I was shocked that people moving into Minnesota who already had a valid license in another state had to take a test!  But, I had to get my new license so I sat at the machine in the DMV and tried my best to pass, but my best was almost not good enough.

According to the Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services Facebook page, all of that is changing on August 1st.

A new law that goes into effect Aug. 1 removes the requirement for new Minnesotans to take the written test to swap out their out-of-state license for a new one. - Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services Facebook Page
