What Can the Happiest Country in the World Teach You?
I am fascinated with this story from Quartz Media. It proposes a reason why Denmark usually ranks near the top of the happiest countries in the world. Go ahead -- Google "happiest country in the world" and see what you get. (One of the things you'll find is this cool Wikipedia story, but I've already given you links to two interesting articles and I'm not even to the second paragraph yet
Mayo Researchers and Patient Take Amazing Step
Through my work on Mayo Clinic Radio, I heard the story of Jered Chinnock. He was paralyzed as the result of a snowmobile accident in 2013. Now, Jered is helping researchers who aim to help him, and others like him, walk again.
The potential impact for paralyzed patients is staggering...
How Many Bags of Garbage Would You Be Willing To Go Through?
I have been thinking all day about the story of Shannon Lombardo and her wedding and engagement rings. Shannon was cleaning her rings, set them on a napkin and then accidentally threw them away. By the time she realized what she'd done, the garbage had been picked up and taken to a garbage station...
21st Century Parenting
This picture makes my day:
I'm sure there will be plenty of folks who will be outraged (because so many of us are addicted to being outraged these days) by what this dad did on Friday night, but I'm in full support. I'd be willing to guess that Thomas was told if he didn't get his grades up by Friday night, he wasn't going to go to the Cavalier's game...
Is Your Child Raiding Your Closet Too?
Jump in my time machine and let's go back to 1990 when I worked at County Seat (remember those?!) and purchased a gen-u-ine Levi's jean jacket. I figured it was a classic item that would never go out of style.
Did it? I honestly have no idea...
What Kind of Shawshank Fan Are YOU?
Over the weekend, we decided the time had finally come for a moment that my husband and I had waited YEARS for. We watched 'The Shawshank Redemption' with our kids for the first time.
It's one of our favorite films, but not what you'd call a 'movie for kids...
Where To Find Swimsuits For Girls In Rochester?
It's been at least year but the memory is still upsetting. I'd say anyone who has taken a teenage girl shopping for a swimsuit is likely to be haunted by the experience for years to come.
My daughter and I are both genetically engineered to detest shopping so the deck was stacked against us, but one year ago my daughter needed a swimsuit so there was no getting around it...
What Are the Six Seasons of Minnesota?
Trying to get folks to agree on the best season is difficult. No, not salt versus pepper. I'm talking seasons, not seasonings!
How Much (or How Little!) Exercise Does Your Heart Need?
Because it's the day after the beginning of the horrible and needless Daylight Saving Time AND a Monday, I'm hopeful no one will judge me on my motivation or lack thereof when it comes to getting exercise crossed off my to-do list.
Have You Noticed This Target Ad?
I usually watch most television shows via DVR so catching the commercials isn't my bag, baby. However, finding this Target ad was a delight!
Kids in wheelchairs, all sizes and colors of models AND how cute is that flowery jacket?!!
Plus, got to LOVE that re-make of It Takes Two...
