4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Come with friends and family to enjoy the beauty of the Mayo Clinic Rochester campus. Our theme this year is Our Tradition of Teamwork. Everyone is welcome, and all activities are free.

Our Mayo Clinic Open House is held in conjunction with Thursdays on First & 3rd Summer Market and Music Festival, sponsored by the Rochester Downtown Alliance. It honors the 25th anniversary of The Mayo Legacy, an organization of Mayo Clinic patients, employees and friends who leave a bequest to Mayo in their will.

Begin your evening by requesting an event brochure from Mayo Clinic Volunteers at the following locations: Plummer Building, Mayo Building, Annenberg Plaza.

Look for these highlights:

  • Life-size cutouts of Mayo Clinic pioneers – Take a “selfie” with the Mayo brothers and their colleagues, who created a unique model of serving patients and advancing medical science.
  • Mayo Clinic Activity Book – Kids (and the young at heart) will learn about Mayo’s history and culture in this free publication. It’s OK to color outside the lines!
  • Movies – We’re proud to present two 35-minute Heritage Films“A Leap of Faith: The Founding of Saint Marys Hospital” – With insight and humor, this film imagines the pivotal conversations between two pioneers, Dr. William Worrall Mayo and Mother Alfred Moes, who became unlikely partners in healing. Enjoy an online preview.

The Real Moonlight Graham: A Life Well Lived” – Learn the real story behind the baseball player/physician featured in the film “Field of Dreams.”

    • Carillon Music – Dedicated “To the American Soldier,” the carillon was a gift of the Mayo brothers with additional bells given by the descendants of Alphonso Gooding, a Rochester pioneer. Gather in Annenberg Plaza to hear this special concert, including favorite songs of the Mayo family, from 4:00-4:30.
    • Mayo Historical Suite – On the third floor of the Plummer Building, discover the original offices of the Mayo brothers, see their diplomas and academic regalia, and marvel at the beauty of the Board of Governors Room.
    • Heritage Hall – Multimedia displays link the past and present of Mayo Clinic with a focus on generous benefactors who support Mayo’s mission.
    • Artifacts and Displays – A baseball signed by Lou Gehrig when he was a patient at Mayo Clinic in 1939 … wax models that demonstrate medical procedures … the evolution of Mayo’s medical record, known throughout the world as the “gold standard” of medical documentation … a historic “doctor’s buggy” … and more!
    • Art, architecture and landscaping – From the lobby of the Plummer Building with its ornate bronze doors … to outdoor spaces with beautiful artwork, greenery and the Mayo Clinic Floral Wall Display … to Mathews Grand Lobby of the Mayo Building with art and marble from around the world, there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy.
