It’s that time of year again. Time for the great southeastern Minnesota get together, that’s right: It’s time for Mazeppa Daze! Once again, the Village in the Valley will be hosting its annual celebration. This year’s dates are July 13th, 14th, and 15th, 2018.
Once again, the celebration will kick off with the annual parade on Friday night at 7 p.m. Entries are still being accepted; send an email to mazeppadazeparade@yahoo.com for further inquiry. After the parade the annual Friday night street dance will be going on. We have music by The Cooleegians. Come on down, enjoy the parade, enjoy the street dance, and then stick around for a preview show of our fireworks. It’s a little teaser before our big show on Saturday night.
Kicking off Saturday, is the annual pancake breakfast at the Legion, staring at 6 a.m. Beginning Saturday will be the softball and volleyball tournaments, with their continuation into Sunday. At 9:30, the annual 5k fun run/walk will start, feel free to contact Mazeppa City Hall at 507-843-3685 for further details. At the school, in the gym, will be the annual craft/hobby show. Come in, enjoy some cool atmosphere, and browse local vendors. At 2p.m. will be the duck races. Tickets will be sold, $5 apiece. The kids always love seeing the rubber duckies floating down the river. Come watch, cheer for your favorite duck, hopefully they will win! As always, starting at 4p.m. will be the Lion’s Chicken and Beef BBQ; serving until 8 p.m.; additionally, there will also be a street dance held at the Her Vik field starting at 8:30. And, one of the best parts of the weekend, and one of the best shows in southeastern Minnesota, it will be the HUGE fireworks display! This is an event that attracts thousands of spectators every year. Please, plan accordingly, there is always heavy traffic. Be safe, be smart, and most of all, have FUN!
Sunday continues the softball tournament, with the co-ed volleyball tournament starting. The tractor pull will be starting at 10 a.m. Come cheer your favorite tractors on as they compete with one another. The 4th annual firefighter water fights will be starting at 11 a.m., come cheer on your favorite fire dept. and/or favorite firefighters as they compete for local bragging rights. Starting at 12 p.m. at the Lion’s Park is the annual classic car show. Enjoy all the classic, as well as a few modern, cars for your viewing pleasure.
As always, the Mazeppa Veterans Honor Guard will be hosting their Field of Honor all weekend, opening ceremonies will be held on Thursday July 12, 2018, at 7 p.m. Come and show your support for those that have made the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedoms, it is truly a sight to behold. It will be staffed all weekend long. So come see it in the day time, come see it in the night, either way, it truly is a beautiful addition to Mazeppa Daze.
