October 8th at 7 PM, the Rochester Civil War Round Table will feature the program, "The Battle on the Mississippi River & at New Orleans", presented by Tom Ostrom.

It is the story of an 1862 Civil War battle involving both the navies & armies. It is a story of tactics, technology, leadership & logistics. Brown water wooden US Navy ships had to face sand bars & river currents from the Gulf to New Orleans, battling Confederate gun fire from forts and iron clad ships, also torpedoes (mines), fire-rafts and ram boat assaults. The Union forces of Adm. Farragut and Gen. Butler were maximally challenged on land and water.

The program will be held at the History Center of Olmsted County, located at 1195 W. Circle Dr. SW, Rochester. The public is invited.
