From the moment he was adopted from Paws and Claws, everyone fell in love with Hawk. We watched him grow, kept tabs on his training, and were all so excited when he got his assignment; Hulk was going to save lives as a bomb-sniffing dog!

But...well, sometimes things don't work out and quite frankly, Hulk has been given the golden collar and bowl and will live out his life as a fun loving dog with a big name.

What happened? A Facebook post on the Olmsted County Sheriff's Department page explains...

Unfortunately, during initial training to become an explosive detection dog we discovered Hulk didn’t have the drive to be a working member of the K-9 Unit. Therefore, he will be retiring early right here in #OlmstedCounty and living with his former handler Deputy Corry Retzer where he will continue to be loved, enjoy time with family, eat more treats, and enjoy endless amounts of relaxation.

In a conversation with Sheriff Kevin Torgerson (hear it here, just click Rochester Today tab and hit play on Monday, July 13), we learned Hulk was GREAT at sniffing out bombs, BUT, the test requires six-in-a-row and Hulk was good for a couple, then was ready to plop down and play.

Of course that means there was an opening at the department, and the Mall of America just happened to have the solution!

Being Hulk is officially retired, we needed to fill his spot and are excited to welcome veteran explosive detection dog, K-9 Mikey! We are excited to have Mikey join our team after spending four years working at the Mall of America. Please join us in wishing Hulk the best in his retirement, and welcoming K-9 Mikey, the newest member of the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit!

Mikey's handler at the MOA joined a law enforcement agency at just the same time Hulk was telling everyone, "Hey, I just wanna play." So welcome aboard, Mikey!
