Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News) - A long, and sometimes ugly, labor dispute involving the Mayo Clinic has been resolved. A news release issued this morning by SEIU Healthcare Minnesota says the over 80 certified nursing assistants, housekeepers, maintenance workers and other employees at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Albert Lea have approved a new three-year contract to replace an agreement that expired almost 2-years ago.

The same union workers staged a first-ever one-day strike against the Albert Lea Hospital in late December, which led to a 7-day lockout by the Mayo Clinic and picketing in downtown Rochester. It also prompted the union to file an unfair labor practices complaint against the healthcare giant. The statement from SEIU says the new contract agreement was reached earlier this month after the union members voted to authorize another work stoppage.

The union says the new agreement includes pay raises ranging from just over 7-percent to 10-percent over the life of the contract and some job protections for workers faced with being transferred to Austin as part of an ongoing consolidation plan announced by the Mayo Clinic last year.
