Minnesota Group Rescuing Dogs Displaced By Hurricane Harvey
It’s been a little over a week now since Hurricane Harvey slammed into parts of Texas, but one southeast Minnesota Humane Association is helping rescue pets stranded by the storm.
According to several posts on their Facebook page, the Steele County Humane Society in Owatonna sent a team of volunteers down to Texas last weekend to help with the recovery and rescue of animals stranded by Harvey.
If you’re like me, and didn’t quite understand how rescues here in Minnesota can help, it’s actually quite simple. The site said they brought currently unclaimed animals available for adoption in various shelters in Texas up here, which to cleared up space so animals displaced by the flooding might be reunited with their owners down there.
Which makes perfect sense, now that I think about it. It’s difficult for us living here in Minnesota to sometime wrap our heads around the devastation being inflicted by something huge like a hurricane. I know I’ve never had to evacuate my house– and try to gather up our pets at the same time!
So, it’s heartening to know that organizations here in Minnesota, like the Steele County Humane Society and their dedicated volunteers, are doing what they can to help. My hat is off to them! If you’re interested in helping out, you can get more information HERE.
