Minnesota Police Department Warns Locals Of New Scam
This is a shame. There's another scam going around in Minnesota and unfortunately, at least one person is out a large chunk of change.
This scam was reported just a few days ago by the Eden Prairie Police Department, located just a few hours from Duluth.
They shared details of the scam on Thursday (February 13th), warning Minnesotans that scammers are targeting them. This could happen anywhere in the state, including right here in the Northland.
That's why it's a good idea to brush up on the scam, how it works and what you and your loved ones can do to avoid becoming a victim of it. Here's how it works.

Here's How It works
This scam is pretty elaborate. A local gets a call from someone posing as a member of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, telling the local that they have an outstanding fine in their name for missing a court appearance.

Even if the victim doesn't think they missed a court appearance, the scammer creates confusion and adds pressure to the conversation, telling them they should withdraw money from an ATM and transfer it using a 'cryptocurrency exchange' to clear their name.
Recently, a Minnesotan became a victim of this scam and lost out on their cash. A grocery store employee noticed the customer at the ATM and warned them they might be getting scammed, but it was too late.

The Eden Prairie Police Department reminds everyone that scammers are very good at what they do, especially with the advancement of technology. They know what buttons to push and what to say to get people to fall for their methods.
There are many red flags in this instance but it can be hard to know that when you are being scammed in the moment.
Share this with your family and friends and as always, do some research before acting on anything. Ugh!
