Officials indicate one of the schools was the target of the potential safety concern and the other school was closed due to its proximity to the named school.

District leaders say the decision to cancel the last day, which is Friday, May 30, was made due to the timing of the report.

Page said Friday’s activities had to be called off in order to give officials and law enforcement enough time to assess the situation.

“We take student safety very seriously and are committed to providing a supportive environment for all students,” Page wrote.

Officials did not disclose the nature of the potential safety concern. Page said the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act prevents the district from sharing information related to individual students.

“All threats of violence—even those made in jest—are taken seriously and may result in student discipline, including possible expulsion and involvement of law enforcement,” Page said.
