Palisade Head: A Cliffside Marvel in Minnesota
Palisade Head, located near Silver Bay and part of Tettegouche State Park, was named the best view in Minnesota for its "spectacular views of a sheer cliff plunging into blue water." On a clear day, you can see the Apostle Islands of Wisconsin, nearly 30 miles to the south.
The overlook is easily accessible by car and a short walk, and the views are some of the best on the Great Lakes. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR) notes that Palisade Head "was formed 1.1 billion years ago from a violent volcanic eruption."
More Wonders at Tettegouche State Park in Minnesota
Tettegouche State Park is also home to other spectacular views. Visitors can take a 20-minute walk to the overlook on Shovel Point. There is also a viewing area and hiking around the tallest waterfall in Minnesota, High Falls. Additionally, breathtaking views of the Palisade Valley await, and the Superior Hiking Trail cuts through the park.
