Bread + 1 Ingredient = The Best Hangover Fix
Minnesotans say the New Year's Day hangover is the worst hangover of the year, so if you're going to drink, why not try the hangover fix called T and H?
"According to a survey from the website AlcoholRehab, New Years Day was overwhelmingly the holiday that Minnesotans say was their worst hangover of the year." (Click to keep reading about Minnesota's Biggest Hangover Day)
What IS T and H? It's a breakfast of toast with honey. That's what you do...you eat toast and honey for breakfast.
This hangover fix comes from the Royal Society of Chemistry, where back in 2010, Dr. John Emsley said it's all about acetaldehyde. What's acetaldehyde? The bad stuff that gives you a hangover.
The happiness comes from alcohol; the hangover comes from acetaldehyde. This is the toxic chemical into which alcohol is converted by the body and it causes a throbbing headache, nausea, and maybe even vomiting. The hangover disappears as the acetaldehyde is slowly converted to less toxic chemicals. That's the science.
The best move is to avoid the hangover by not drinking, or not drinking excessively. Know your limit and stay within it. However, the doctor says if you want a way to avoid the hangover, do this...
- Drink a glass of milk first.
- Stick to gin (or vodka) and tonic.
- Occasionally have a soft drink.
- Drink a pint of water before you go to bed.
"The milk slows down the absorption of alcohol, which means there is less acetaldehyde for the body to deal with at any one time. Gin is alcohol twice purified by distillation and the botanical flavours it contains are mere traces. Avoid dark coloured drinks which contain natural chemicals that can adversely affect you. "
If you do get the hangover, enjoy toast with honey and it'll help your body get better thanks to the sodium, potassium, and fructose in that breakfast. There is no CURE for a hangover, but time. These things, tho, will help it get better and alleviate the ughness of it all.
