Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester Elementary school was placed on lockdown for about a half hour Monday morning while police responded to a nearby home.

A spokesman says officers were sent to the 500 block of 4th Avenue Southeast around 8:30 a.m. after a man, identifying himself as a relative of a Jamar Clark, called 911 and stated that he wanted to engage police in an armed confrontation. Clark was the 24-year-old Minneapolis man who was shot and killed by police in November 2015 in an incident that sparked numerous protests in the Twin Cities.

The lockdown was ordered at Riverside Elementary School because it is located only about a block away from the residence where the call originated. The man surrendered peacefully around 9 AM and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
