I was talking to a lady at the gym the other night and we got to talking about her elementary-aged son. She was telling me that he was dyslexic and has been struggling with kids at school making fun of him for stumbling over words and spelling things wrong. I was telling her if anyone understands what he is going through it was me. I have been in his shoes my whole life. If there's anything I'm sensitive about, it is kids getting made fun of for having a disability.

I'm normally not open about this, but I need to be! When I was in the second grade, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. All the way through college I have been made fun of for stumbling over words, not being able to spell and struggling with Math. I've had peers, friends and even adults make fun of me and that has never sat well with me. The one thing that saved me was having two supportive parents that were there for me every step of the way. Once I learned that having dyslexia was a gift that would teach me life lessons I wouldn't get anywhere else, I started to embrace my differences.

In a world that is center around texting, emailing and updating social media platforms daily, there isn't a time when someone with dyslexia isn't struggling. It can be hard waking up every morning knowing that everything you do is going to be a struggle. These folks are brave and have to overcome barriers that many others will never understand. So I am asking you from the bottom of my heart, please don't put up with bullying of any kind especially when it has to do with someone dealing with a disability! Their life is already hard and they don't need the stress of feeling different in the back of their mind every day.
