Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Byron woman has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and 5 years probation for convictions stemming from a traffic crash in a Rochester park back in August.

21-year-old Leah Cross earlier pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge and a gross misdemeanor count of criminal vehicular operation.

Police say Cross was southbound on 11th Avenue on the north side of Slatterly Park when she failed to follow the curve on the road and went straight down an embankment. Her vehicle ended up crashing into a concrete bridge support, which prevented it from falling into the water. Cross wasn’t hurt. but her 22-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries.

A preliminary breath test showed Cross had a blood/alcohol level of .182, more than twice the legal limit.

Court records show Cross was charged last December for underage drinking and driving and was placed on probation for one year. She was also convicted in March of driving after her license was suspended and was ticketed again for the same violation in July and on August 10th, just 10 days before the crash.

Her sentencing order indicates she could be excused from serving some or all of her jail sentence if her probation officer notifies the court that she is doing well on probation and is in compliance with all of the terms of her probation.
