Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The California company that is preparing to construct a new hotel at the American Legion Club site on the north edge of downtown Rochester has acquired the Holiday Inn in downtown Rochester and has plans for major upgrades to the property.

The website for the EKN Development Group includes an artist rendering of a concept plan created through a collaboration with HKS Architects for revamping the over 170 room hotel building, which also is home to a number of privately owned condominiums. A timeline and price tag for the project were not disclosed.

EKN also has plans to develop a hotel at the current Virgil’s Auto Repair and Towing business near St. Mary’s hospital. The car repair business recently announced it was discontinuing the sale of fuel and removed the underground gas tanks on the property, where EKN hopes to open a 150 room hotel in 2020.
