The SKOL chant was loud and clear on Sunday as the Vikings took the win at U.S. Bank Stadium.  I'm not even a huge football fan and it was an impressive game to watch.  Minnesota's team is having its best season since 2016 and they are THE team to watch this year.

How Much Money Do The People Working The Chains During an NFL Game Make?

While I was watching the Vikings game Sunday, I got sidetracked.  The ball is so small compared to the giants that are on the line that I just get lost once the ball is in play.  While I was trying to find the ball, I did notice something else - the chain gang.  Two individuals hold bright orangey poles and just go up and down the field, the entire time.  They are getting their steps in!

I have zero clue what happened in the 4th quarter of the Vikings game because my eyes were on the chain gang the entire time.  Analyzing, wondering, and Googling to see what it takes to be part of this elite group of people at an NFL game.  I also wanted to know how much cash they were making.

After some serious Googling, I learned that most of the chain gangs in the NFL got about $75 to $100 per game.  That range came from a story that Alex Prewitt wrote in Sports Illustrated back in November 2020.  Sportskeeda reported in 2023 that the Baltimore Ravens paid  $72 per game to their chain gang crew.  That story indicated that some teams that endure the elements of winter weather may pay more.  Example, the Buffalo Bills have been known to pay $40 per hour to their chain gang crew.

In the BleacherReport, John Antillon, who was in charge of the chain gang for the Los Angeles Rams stated that some people in this position "do it for just the opportunity to be on the field in that environment, and really consider it a privilege to be there.".
