Check Out Why Mr. Peanut Just Moved to Southeast Minnesota

Did you know that Mr. Peanut, the official mascot for Planters Peanuts just moved here to Minnesota? Check out why he's now making his home here in the North Star State.
Sure, Minnesota is already home to some well-known classic food mascots like the Hamm's Bear, the Pillsbury Dough Boy, and, of course, the Jolly Green Giant. But southeast Minnesota just got ANOTHER famous resident mascot last week.
In case you missed it, Mr. Peanut, the official spokes-nut (yes, that's a thing) for Planters Peanuts, just officially moved here to the Land of 10,000 Lakes. It's all because Hormel Foods in Austin just completed its buyout of the Planters Peanuts brand, which it purchased from Kraft/Heinz foods for whopping $3.35 billion dollars. The deal closed a few weeks ago, so since then, Mr. Peanut (and all his Nut Mobiles) have been making the move west from Pittsburgh to Minnesota.
They celebrated with a party last week both at the Hormel headquarters in Austin and up in St. Paul, where Planter Peanuts also made a $10,000 donation to the Vikings' Adam Thielen and his Thielen Foundation, which, as his website says, empowers youth across Minnesota to reach their full potential. Ultimately, Planters is giving away $100,000 to five local Minnesota charities and five Minnesotans who are adding substance to their communities.
That massive purchase, which officially closed in June, seems to be a good fit for Hormel, which, in addition to all its Hormel-branded products (love the SPAM and pepperoni!), bought the Skippy Peanut Butter line and added it to its line-up in 2013.
Hormel's signature, Spam, Skippy Peanut Butter, and Planters Peanuts are all some of the most well-known brands of food on store shelves these days. Fortunately, they're all still going strong, too-- even during our ongoing pandemic. Sometimes, though, even a famous brand simply goes away. Keep scrolling to check out some well-known brands that aren't around anymore!
