Child Admitted to Hospital After Accidental Shooting at Twin Cities Apartment Complex
Officers responded to the Equinox Apartments in the 2500 block of Silver Ln. Northeast in St. Anthony after a 911 hangup call from the area.
A hospital was mentioned and a “commotion” was heard in the background of the call, the news release says.
No one was in the area when officers responded to the apartment complex shortly before 6:45 p.m. Police also did not find anyone in need of help, the source of the call or any evidence indicating a crime had been committed.
About 20 minutes later, police were notified of a child being brought to a nearby hospital with an accidental gunshot wound, the news release says.
Detectives found and interviewed two people who were near the child at the time of the shooting. They said the gunshot went off while the child was in a vehicle parked at the apartment complex, police say.
The child was given medical treatment then admitted to the hospital. An update on the child’s condition and the child’s age are not available.
Police gathered evidence from the hospital and the scene. The evidence is being processed by the Hennepin County Crime Lab, the news release says.
St. Anthony Police say the apparent accidental shooting is under investigation.
