Compromise Insurance Premium Relief Plan Headed for Final Votes
ST. PAUL, MN (KROC-AM News) - A compromise plan for extending assistance to Minnesotans facing enormous premium increases on health insurance plans this year emerged from a House-Senate Conference Committee on Wednesday.
The $327 million package appropriates the vast majority of the funding to providing 25 percent rebates to the approximately 125,000 Minnesotans hit with premium increases of 50 to 67-percent on health plans purchased from the individual market.
The legislation also includes reforms sought by Republican legislative leaders, including a provision allowing for-profit HMOs to offer health coverage plans to Minnesotans shopping for coverage on the individual market.
The full House and Senate are expected to hold final votes on the measure Thursday, and an official from Governor Mark Dayton's administration has indicated it is likely that he would sign it.
