See the Boneless Ribeye Roast Costco Is Selling for $1,000+
Every now and then you find Costco has an extraordinarily expensive food item. One year it was a block of cheese. This year, if you're sick of turkey for Thanksgiving dinner, and you want to switch it up, 10 of you will have to put in $100/each for the turkey replacement.
Costco Is Selling A 12lb Boneless Ribeye Roast for Over $1,000
Forget the turkey, do a ribeye roast for Thanksgiving and I'll bet no one would mind. They're kinda spendy, but the meat is so good, right? Well, at HyVee, their Angus Reserve Boneless Beef Ribeye Roast is just under $11/pound. For 12 lbs, that's $132 before tax.
But if you go to Costco, and get the Japanese Wagyu Boneless Ribeye Roast, it's $1,099.99. Not per pound, for the whole thing. Buy it online and you get a $200 discount, but that's still $899.99! On the other hand, it's A5 Grade, and I've heard that's pretty spectacular. I've never had that level of quality, but they say it'll literally solve all your problems, make your car work again, and cure illnesses.
Could Japanese Wagyu Boneless Ribeye Roast Actually Be Worth the $899,99?
Not to me, no. But plenty of people are super positive things on the Costco roast page...

The Ribeye A5 roast rivals that of Tokyo steakhouses for a fraction of the price. It comes frozen and packed well. It took a good 3-4 days to defrost in the fridge. As others pointed out, there is a good deal of fat (Not unexpectedly!) that needs to be trimmed while butchering. I cut in to all kinds of steaks, cubes, thin slices (sushi-like) and vacuum packed and refroze all of them. If cooked properly, these are absolutely brimming with flavor as good as the top cuts that I have tried multiple times in Tokyo. You miss the presentation of cooking, but this A5 is absolutely worth the investment that will go a long way.

Just okay. For the price I expected the best steak I ever had. Good but not great. Recommends this product ✘ NoDogLady85 · 4 years ago **
We got the Japanese Wagyu rib-eye this time thinking it would be tastier than the Wagyu filet. Wrong. This is more than 60% fat and near impossible to cook even on a solid griddle without huge flames from fat dripping out of the side channels.sherry66 · 4 years ago *
It is embarrassing to host with this meat. It is NOT a $1000 meat

So, if you win the Powerball, you'll have plenty of money to try the fancy Japanese Wagyu Boneless Ribeye Roast without worrying about the cost. Until then, for Thanksgiving, make it Turkey and all the other deliciousness, especially pie!
