Denny's management had a conference call recently with investors, and they identified the weakest locations that were dragging down the rest of the healthier performing locations, according to Parade. About one-fifth of the locations will close.

Denny's has been hit hard recently, with a 20 percent decrease in sales. They blame some of the decrease on the old, outdated stores and changes in each market. Part of their new strategy will be incentivizing franchisees to update their locations under the Diner 2.0 plan. So, the diners that aren't closed could actually get a facelift soon. The company is giving out a $100,000 grant to each location that agrees to the updates.
