
Federal Convict Who Escaped Custody in Minnesota Indicted
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News)- A federal convict who was captured after escaping custody in Minnesota is now under indictment.

A news release issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota says he was arraigned in U.S. District Court on Wednesday.
He allegedly escaped from federal custody last Fall. Court documents indicate he was convicted in a federal case in Texas more than six years ago.

Man Serving Sentence for Illegal Alien Harboring Conviction Indicted for Escaping Federal Custody in Minneapolis, MN
The news release says 48-year-old Ismael Benavidez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens in October of 2018. He was sentenced to 40 months in prison and three years supervised release after the guilty plea.
Benavidez was in custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and had been lawfully transferred to the Volunteers of America Residential Reentry Center in the District of Minnesota, the news release says.
Federal court documents say he walked away from the facility in Minneapolis last October without authorization.
The news release indicates he was captured by the U.S. Marshals Service. Details regarding his capture have not been released.
The indictment charges Benavidez with one count of escape from custody. A federal judge ordered Benavidez to remain in custody pending further proceedings, the news release says.
His next court date has not been announced.
