When it comes to fireworks in Minnesota there aren't many that are legal. The Minnesota State Fire Marshall says you can legally shoot off things like sparklers, cones and tubes that emit sparks, novelty items like snakes, and party poppers. You can see the full list of what's legal (it isn't very long) and what's illegal here.

It's no secret that people go over to Wisconsin to buy fireworks for the 4th. Turns out you could go to jail if you're caught doing this. The law is explained on the Minnesota House of Representatives' Website: Most violations are a misdemeanor for which a court can impose a sentence of 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both. Violations involving a large amount of fireworks (35 pounds gross container weight or more) can be punished as a gross misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of one year in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.
