I've probably seen the Alexandria Aces perform 3 times in my lifetime, and it was all during halftime at Minnesota Timberwolves games. You'd see these young kids out on the court spinning a ball on their fingers while doing tricks, or using teammates to perform acrobatic shots. It was and is super cool to see. But this is the last year of the Elementary/Middle school group known as the Alexandria Aces.

In a news piece done by KARE 11I came to find out that the Alexandria Aces were formed not that long ago in 1990 by Larry Novotny. Now the first Alexandria Aces team consisted of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders who only performed at halftime of local high school games. But as their act grew, so did the crowds, and it wasn't long before they were performing at Gophers and Timberwolves games and other college and pro arenas around the country.

But 30 some years later it's coming to an end. There isn't the same interest from kids now, schedules are too hectic and even greater than that no new kids tried out this year.

Over a span of 30 years, things change. Sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worse. I'll miss being amazed by these brave young individuals. The Aces' last performance is scheduled for March 29th at halftime of the Timberwolves game.
