Murder-Attempted Suicide Suspected in Death of Twin Cities Infant
Champlin, MN (MinnesotaNow) - Police in a Twin Cities suburb now say the death of an infant last weekend is being investigated as an apparent murder–attempted suicide.
The Champlin Police Department earlier reported that officers responded Sunday afternoon to a report of a baby not breathing. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the infant and an adult who was described as being in medical distress.
Infant Pronounced Dead at Hospital
Champlin police indicated officers administered first aid before the baby and the adult were transported to a nearby hospital, where the infant was pronounced dead. Information about the medical condition of the surviving adult was not released.

An updated news release issued Tuesday afternoon states that evidence in the case, including a statement from the adult, led investigators to determine the incident was likely a murder-attempted suicide. That evidence was submitted to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, which has issued an arrest warrant for second-degree murder.
Transfer to Jail Upcoming
Officials say the suspect remains hospitalized and will be booked into the Hennepin County Jail after being released from medical care.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, according to police.
