
Austin Drive-By Shooting Leads to 28-Year Sentence
Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Austin man has been sentenced to more than 28 years in prison for his involvement in a deadly drive-by shooting that occurred two years ago.
A Mower County jury returned a guilty verdict in July against 30-year-old Chan Obang Oman. He was found guilty of aiding and abetting first- and second-degree murder, two counts of aiding and abetting attempted first-degree murder, and one count of aiding and abetting drive-by shooting.
Fatal Austin Shooting Leaves One Dead, Two Injured
The charges stemmed from a fatal shooting in Austin in June 2023. The criminal complaint says two men and a woman were shot while they were traveling in a vehicle. The driver, 25-year-old Gumdel Gilo, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other victims were taken to a hospital and treated for gunshot wounds.
Shooter Jenup Chop Serving 37-Year Prison Sentence
Evidence presented during Oman’s trial placed him in an SUV with two other men when one of them opened fire on the victims’ vehicle. Police identified the actual shooter as Jenup Chop, who is now serving a 37-year prison sentence for his conviction on second-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder charges.

The third man in the vehicle, Manamany Abella, entered a guilty plea to aiding an offender-accomplice after the fact for his role in the murder.
