Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester family of three has been displaced by a structure fire.
The Rochester fire department responded to the report of a kitchen fire around 6:10 p.m. While they were heading to the call, fire crews were informed the family had noticed the flames and evacuated the structure.
The kitchen fire broke out at a home in the 2500 block of Pearl Ct. SE. Upon arrival, crews reported seeing heavy black smoke coming from the windows of the home.
Firefighters entered the home through a side door and encountered what is described in a news release as heavy black smoke. Crews located the kitchen fire and quickly extinguished it with a portable water extinguisher.
Fire crews then ran a hose through the home’s front door to put the fire out for good. A search of the home confirmed that everyone inside had gotten out.
No injuries were reported. The fire was contained to the kitchen area. The home’s first floor suffered extensive smoke damage and firefighting efforts caused water damage in the basement, the news release says.
Officials say the Red Cross is assisting the family. The Rochester Fire Department praised the residents quick recognition and action, saying it saved lives and limited the fire damage.
