The National Weather Service in La Crosse has issued a high-level alert for areas of central and southeastern Minnesota as well as parts of western Wisconsin.  This alert includes cities such as  Rochester, Faribault, Mankato, Red Wing, Albert Lea, Austin and Winona.

Closings and schedule changes for Monday, April 28th, 2025 are being reported for the area due to the anticipated storm.

Dangerous Weather Expected in Minnesota on Monday, April 28th, 2025

Iowa and Minnesota is the hot spot today for severe weather.  Based on the latest reports from the National Weather Service, widespread severe storms are expected on Monday, April 28th for a large area of central Minnesota, southeast Minnesota, and parts of western Wisconsin.

If you haven't already, secure items that are loose outside and plan on getting cars inside the garage because large hail, damaging wind, and tornadoes are all possible for this area between 6:00 pm and Midnight.

Schools, businesses, and organizations have been watching the latest weather reports and several have announced closings or changes in schedules for Monday, April 28th, 2025.

Here are the school closings, delays, and other cancellations across the Rochester and Southern Minnesota area for Monday, April 28th, 2025:

Howard-Winneshiek Community Schools - early dismissal Monday at 2:20 PM.  All afternoon activities/clubs cancelled

Pine Island Public Schools - all afternoon activities and childcare ending at 5pm.  No evening activities.

Riceville Community Schools - closing early Monday at 2:30 pm.  No after school activities

Rochester Public Schools - Middle school after-school activities are canceled.  All night school classes are canceled. All activities at school sites must conclude by 6:00 pm.
