Jeremiah Program Groundbreaking on Monday

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A groundbreaking ceremony will take this morning to celebrate the start of construction for the Jeremiah Program Campus in Rochester.

The event will mark another milestone in the effort to build a facility in Rochester for the Jeremiah Program. The national non-profit organization’s mission is ending the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children by offering affordable housing and transformational programming aimed at single mothers and their families.

The groundbreaking follows three years of planning and fundraising for the $16.5 million campus. A news release says a $1 million gift from the Harper Family Foundation announced last month rounded out the commitments needed to move the project forward.

“This generous gift keeps us on track for transformational programming aimed at single mothers and their families,” said JoMarie Morris, Jeremiah Program Rochester-Southeast Minnesota executive director. “From the first discussions to these final dollars, all sectors of the community have rallied to bring this project to fruition.”

The Jeremiah Program Campus in Rochester, which is scheduled to be completed next summer, will house 40 families and room for the services offered through the program. At this point, 12 families have completed a required Empowerment Training and another 20 are scheduled to enter the course.

The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking celebration at the campus construction site near the intersection of Valleyhigh Drive and 19th Street Northwest.
