Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A child sex abuse conviction has led to a lengthy prison sentence for a Rochester man.
37-year-old Mark Mitchell was handed the 24-year prison sentence in Olmsted County Court late Thursday afternoon. He earlier pleaded guilty to the two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct that were filed against him back in April for sexually assaulting a young girl.
Olmsted County prosecutors filed a motion seeking the longer prison sentence almost immediately after the charges were filed based on the multiple assaults suffered by the child. The criminal complaint against Mitchell alleged the sexual abuse began last December and continued for several weeks before Rochester police were contacted in early February.
