La Crescent Man Sentenced for Shooting Friend

Caledonia, MN (KROC-AM News) - A La Crescent man has been given a one-year prison sentence for shooting and wounding a friend last December, but with credit for the time he has already spent in jail, 38-year-old Robert Albrecht will only have to spend another 90 days behind bars.

Back in July, Albrecht was convicted of dangerous discharge of a weapon and a threats of violence charge, but was acquitted of three felony assault charges, including one count of first-degree assault.

The criminal complaint says that the victim was visiting Albrecht, who began discussing suicide before he took out a .45 caliber handgun and began waving it around and pointing it at his friend. The man told investigators Albrecht refused his request to stop, and as he was leaving he was shot in the abdomen from a distance of about two feet. Albrecht told authorities he did not know the gun safety was off and stated the shooting was an accident.

In addition to the prison time, Albrecht was ordered to pay over $8500 in restitution.
