Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The dredging of Lake Zumbro is close to 80-percent complete.

Rochester Public Utilities spokesman Tony Benson says crews have removed about 340,000 cubic yards of sludge, silt, and other materials from the reservoir along the Zumbro River in northern Olmsted County and southern Wabasha County. It’s estimated there is another 100,000 cubic yards of sediment that still needs to be dredged from the northern part of the lake.

Benson says the over $7-million project remains on schedule to be completed in early November. Contributions from RPU, Olmsted and Wabasha Counties, along with revenues from a special assessment paid by the owners of property along and near the lake, are funding the project.
